Science fiction recommendations

Book of the Day: Reading Journal Entry: Crossfire, by Nancy Kress OK so I mentioned earlier that I don't read SF any more (one or two exceptions over the years, eg Carl Sagan's "Contact"). Now I've seen two recommendations in two days which make me want to read some. The first is Naomi Novik's "His Majesty's Dragon", recommended by Jenny Davidson and Sarah Weinman (link on Petrona 2 as not yet possible to order via Amazon.co.uk); the second is the one linked to here, recommended by mapletree7.
